Hand Lettering: procreate
These are hand lettering pieces I've created using the ProCreate app and the Apple Pencil. I started hand lettering five years ago as a side hobby. I never thought this interest of mine would make it as far as it has nor did I think I would make an impact with it. A goal of mine is to letter every day, whether it be for five minutes or an hour, whether it be a rough sketch or a final piece.
Hand Lettering: dunkin' donuts
This is a Dunkin' Donuts spot that incorporated some of my hand lettering for the words "brown sugar", "chipotle", and "brown sugar chipotle bacon". The idea was to make the words out of the seasoning so I took into account the width of the letters as well as how each letter fit with the surrounding letters. I used serifs to differentiate the style from the Gotham supers at the end and to aid to the masculinity of the sandwich.
Hand Lettering: europe
During the summer of 2016, I had the amazing opportunity to travel to Europe: Berlin, Amsterdam, Brussels, Paris, and London. I decided that I wanted to bring a little of my hand lettering to Europe when I went. I made a piece specific to each city and left it in a popular spot for someone to find. I wrote a little blurb on the back explaining the artwork which included my Instagram handle for people to contact me if they found it. There was something about the unknown that really inspired me to even do this. Would someone find it? Would they keep it? Would they contact me about it?
I heard back from Berlin and London. It was one of the coolest feelings ever and I hope to continue doing this wherever I travel to next.
I think the best part of being an artist is having the ability to inspire others. The second best part is the feeling you get when you buy other artists' work. These are two pieces by the amazing Roxy Prima. She's the artist that got me into hand lettering and continues to inspire me.
